“Light is not so much something that reveals, as it is itself revelation.”

FORTHCOMING

THEO HIRSCHFIELD

Gallery Sonder is pleased to announce Euphorbia, Theo Hirschfield’s second solo presentation with the gallery. In Euphorbia, Hirschfield elaborates on the style of composition that characterizes his previous bodies of work. The works recall alien flora, inspired by California native succulents and cacti. Their lush, taut exteriors suggest the volumes held within: the mystery of what’s inside is almost as tantalizing as the secret of how these bodies formed, where they source power, and how they live.

ANNE AUSTIN PEARCE

My art practice considers the infinite and varied ways we can know and not know, based on our sensual and somatic experiences; memory, cognition, and consciousness; dreams, mythologies, and archetypes; and systems within and beyond human control.

I work primarily on paper, and many of my drawings and paintings are of intimate scale, one-to-one with the body. In recent years, though, I have been experimenting with how collage works can erupt beyond the frame to become large-scale, site-specific, infinitely mutable interventions in space.
